Celebrating W.E.B. Du Bois at Penn

The Penn Current has published The Times and Life of W.E.B. Du Bois at Penn, an examination of the life and career of the scholar for whom Du Bois College House is named. Dr. Du Bois, who began his study of the Black population of Philadelphia's 7th Ward in 1896-7 as a Penn scholar, went on to produce what is recognized now as the "first scientific study of race in the world." Du Bois College House, founded in 1972, today carries forward the mission of African and African-American scholarship in the 21st century.

On February 23, kindergarten through sixth-grade students from West Philadelphia's Jubilee School visited Du Bois College House for a celebration of Dr. Du Bois's 148th birthday, with a visit from Dr. Tukufu Zuberi, a spoken-word performance by the African American Arts Alliance, and of course plenty of cake!
