Amistad Gallery Exhibition: The Afro-Latinx Experience

The Afro-Latinx Experience at the Amistad Gallery

Sandra Andino, Ph.D.The Amistad Gallery at the W.E.B. Du Bois College House presents The Afro-Latinx Experience: Philadelphia Stories by Sandra Andino, Ph.D. This gallery was conceived and implemented by former Faculty Director, Professor Terry Adkins.

After two years without art in the space, Du Bois College House staff is happy to host this audio-visual documentary exhibit that addresses the intersection of racial identity, racism and blackness presented through photographs and personal stories of Afro-Latin@s in Philadelphia. The exhibit will run from November 11, 2016 to December 12, 2016.

Special events connected to the exhibit are scheduled in the Du Bois College House Multipurpose Room in November and December.  An opening reception will be held on Friday, November 11 from 4-6pm.  A talk back with Dr. Andino is scheduled for Thursday, November 17 from 7:30-9pm.  A closing performance with members of Raices de Borinquen, a folkloric music and dance group, will take place on Thursday, December 8 from 7:30-8:30pm.

"We are delighted to revive Professor Adkins' vision for this space,” says Faculty Director William Gipson.  “Following on our initial conversations with Dr Andino last spring, it is exciting that this exhibit is now available for our enrichment and enjoyment."

This program is sponsored by the generous support of Campaign for Community and La Casa Latina for Hispanic Excellence.  Questions can be directed to Rhina Duquela, Du Bois College House Director, by calling 215-898-3677 or via email at rduquela@upenn.edu.
