Harnwellian Svanika Balasubramanian wins President's Engagement Prize

Harnwell senior Svanika Balasubramanian has been announced as a winner of a Class of 2018 President's Engagement Prize, which is awarded annually and provides $100,000 to selected Penn seniors to implement a project meant to better the world.  Ms. Balasubramanian, along with her colleague Peter Wang Hjemdahl, will receive this money to implement rePurpose, a non-profit intended to improve the recycling industry in Mumbai and create increased opportunities for the street-level rubbish pickers and resellers who form the base of India's informal recycling/reuse chain, while diverting more reusable materials from landfills.  Click the link above to learn more about the Prize and this exciting project.
